I’m not really sure where they’re trying to position the Armani brand. Emporio Armani and to an even greater extent Armani Jeans are probably the most ubiquitous of the “pseudo” designer brands, beloved of football hooligans and taxi drivers everywhere. It takes away a great deal of the caché of wearing the main brand and cheapens its image…. so why are they so desperate to cheapen the image yet further by trying to compete with Calvin Klein in the mass market underwear sector. How much money is there to be made in selling us designer underwear that can be bought on eBay and in TKMaxx for just a few pounds. It seems to me like they’re trying to sell us designer pants in the hope that we’ll then trade up through the sub-brands to one day become a “couture” customer. I’m not even sure any more if any of this is owned by Armani or if it’s all sub-licensed to Asian sweatshop manufacturers…
Will Megan Fox lure British women out of M&S and Knickerbox and into an Armani store… I doubt it… but it will provide a generation of spotty teenagers with new material for their nightly onanistic pursuits!
You’re right about two things Caveman - Emporio does dillute the brand and yes Megan will provide young men with alternative wrist-fodder to nuts. However I disagree with your point about British women not moving from M&S. For all those ‘birds’ whose boyfriends are the football hooligans and taxi driver you mention, looking like Megan Fox is a worthwhile reason to shell out some extra cash. Even if their bum is several sizes bigger.

I haven’t seen Transformers so I’m unlikely to bother with Transformers 2 or 3. She’s undoubtedly pretty but has she actually got anything else in the locker? It appears she’s doing the tattoo “thing” (all profound quotations and meaningful arty messages) and trying to be a next generation Angelina Jolie. It might work, but Angelina has done some really good work(Girl Interrupted, Changeling, A Mighty Heart spring to mind) amongst the action hero commercial dross. The jury’s out as far as I’m concerned… we’ll see if she (and her “people”) can make it happen.
