This is a man who, from day one, signed to Columbia/CBS. Who realised that he could make a cracking living out of exploiting the New York folk scene. Who realised that going electric would be a very smart career move. Who courted the media, who signed lucrative deals, who made sure he got paid. Who constantly played the big capitalist game. In short, a man who never actually lived up to any hippy ideals. Nor, as far as I’m aware, did he claim to - that usually came from other people.
