We’re not sure if he’s selling out or branching out, but rock ‘n’ roll wildman Liam Gallagher is launching his own clothing brand.

The Oasis frontman, now married with children, is flashing two fingers at the recession by starting up clothing range Pretty Green, named after a song by The Jam. And why not, Paul Weller is a well known good mate of the Oasis brothers and they have sung together on numerous occasions.

Displaying an admirable gift for summing up a business plan, Liam says: “We’re going to do clothes I like, if people like it, cool. If they don’t, they don’t!” Pete Doherty better look away as Liam isn’t into that skinny look, but he does promise designs across footwear, denim, knitwear, jackets, trench coats, parkas, t-shirts, hats, scarves and accessories.

Gallagher Junior has the self-belief - some might say cockiness - of true rock ‘n’ roll entrepreneurs Jay-Z and Richard Branson, but does he have the talent?

It’s hard to tell when there are no pieces yet to show from the debut spring 09 collection, but while Liam’s at home playing with the scissors check out the Pretty Green website, which promises a “straight talking” and “up-front” style. We expect nothing else from Manchester’s finest.

Liam insists that “I’m not here to rip anyone off and I’m not doing it for the money either. I’m doing it cuz [sic] there’s a lack of stuff out there of the things I would wear”. As if Top Shop hasn’t been cramming that same “look” down the throats of snot-nosed geezers with fistfuls of fivers for the past decade.

We’ve been racking our brains in the Brand Republic office trying to come up with the headline that sums up Madchester’s move into fashion: Roll Neck With it; Made for it, Don’t look back in Angora and Go let it out. And not forgetting, of course, “coo-coo-couture”, which Liam sings when doing songs such as ‘I am the Walrus’ among others.

If you want to hear more you might want to follow Liam, he’s started Twittering as well. He’s only two tweets in, but in case you’re wondering he’s in Japan having a drink to celebrate St Patricks day.

  • Heathen Chemistry is a much underrated album - so my suggestion is “Hung in A Bad Place”.

  • Is this all a plan to get people wearing horrible Brit Pop clothes like parkas and those stupid fishing hats and make every one believe it’s the 90s. Because turning back time is the only way Oasis could make themselves relevant again.

  • Coldplay’s range, should they release one, would be pretty dull — It would just be all yellow

  • Liam: “You get a bit more classier as you get older”. He’s certainly looking older but not sure he’s any classier. And when is he going to stop walking with that ridiculous Manchester swagger - grow up Liam.

  • Come on don’t be so harsh, he’s classier, doesn’t go around making a huge arse of himself anymore.
